CARBON MONOXIDE GAS

Carbon monoxide gas is colorless, odorless, and tasteless and it can kill. Carbon monoxide is produced from a variety of different sources, such as portable room heaters, automobile exhaust fumes, fireplaces, oil and gas furnaces, oil and gas hot water heaters and gas stove/ranges.

When someone has been exposed to carbon monoxide gas, they may experience flu-like symptoms, a headache, fatigue, weakness, nausea, and dizziness.

Safety Tips:
There are some simple ways to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning:

  • Install at least one Carbon Monoxide detector near the sleeping areas and another outside the furnace room.
  • Have your home heating system inspected annually.
  • Inspect chimneys and vents regularly, for improper connections or clogging debris.
  • If your Carbon Monoxide detector activates, get out of the house and consult your Fire Department.
